This weekend in the world of motorsport saw not one but 3 firsts, SVG won back to back races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the first time. In the IndyCar NXT series Jamie Chadwick became the first women to win a Indy NXT Race in 15 years and a bit closer to home in The Euro NASCAR Series Jack Davidson became the first British driver to win a euro series race. The Pink Lux Motorsports car keeping out of the drama in Sundays NASCAR 2 race to claim the top spot on the podium. Gil Linster was second and keeps up his fine run of form in the series. This was probably the most entertaining race of the weekend, there was utter chaos from the first lap to the last with a number of cars being involved in accidents and very few of the cars ending the weekend in the state they turned up in, even race winner Jack Davidson won this race sporting a replacement bumper after being involved in an accident in the pro race earlier on Sunday.
If truth be told it was a weekend that had more twists and turns than the Brand Hatch Indy Circuit. The Qualifying for the Pro series on Saturday morning was high tempo and saw a number of drivers all trying to first book their place in the super pole session and then claim that pole position on the grid, in the end the Pro Series leader Vittorio Ghirelli booked his place at the head of the pack and that is where he remained for close to the entire race, not even the race going to over time because of rain and accidents could hamper the Italian almost unstoppable charge towards the Pro Series title. Ryan Vargas was also more at home with the Brand Hatch track, describing it as one hill and a few right turns, sadly a costly mistake in the first race cost him at top 10 finish ending the race on Saturday in 15th place. Their was a British double with Both Jack Davidson and Max Marzorati ending the race in 11th and 12th place respectively. Saturday drew to a close with the first of the NASCAR 2 races like the pro series before it didn't disappoint with the race again going to over time after a bad accident for the 27 car caused a length delay, in the end it left a 4 lap dash to win the race with a side by side rolling start, even in those 4 laps we had drama with Florian Richard spinning out while racing down the hill in the middle of the pack and Thomas Toffel having a rear tire puncture. Once all the dust had settled it was Martin Doubek who came out as the winner, the drivers joy could be seen in his post race interview to the TV crew and the odd bit of bad language.
If fans thought Sunday couldn't better what they had witness the day before than they were in for a shock. The Pro race kicked things off with Liam Hezemans starting on pole with Vittorio Ghirelli sat on his bumper in second. Lap one set the tone for more thrills and spills with the dominate Ghirelli who found himself down in 4th and would end the race in 6th. This was yet another race that went to over time with a nasty accident to British Driver Max Marzorati who's car ended up in the tire wall, thankfully Max was unhurt unlike the car which will need a lot of work before the next race in a few weeks time. This all resulted in a length safety car period and bunching the pack up yet again but that wasn't enough to stop Liam Hezeman from storming away and claiming the win, Martin Doubek rounding off a great weekend for himself ending this race in 3rd place, Ryan Vargas also walked away with an extra 5points for being the driver to pass the most cars in the race. An award fully deserved by the American with the bad luck he has had in the series these last few weeks.
All in all the first part of the June double header didn't fail to deliver and put the sport on the map for a weekend. Fans will already be counting down to next year, it was revealed pre race that Fox presenter and co host of the Kevin Harvik happy hour podcast, Mamb Smith was hoping to race this weekend but a deal fell through, the NASCAR Hype Officer taking to Twitter to let fans know that he will be back next year and plans to race in this event, this weekend will take some topping but we think a Euro Nascar driven by Mamba Smith might just do that.
The Series heads to the Netherlands next and the hugely anticipated Venray Oval. The Double Duty will be covering all of the races in the Netherlands as well as all the Euro Nascar news leading up to race weekend.
